I began training Tai Chi and Aiki Jujutsu, primarily because I was fascinated with the potential of soft style martial arts -- martial arts that deserve the pursuit throughout life. Forty-four years have passed since then, but I am still on my way to explore their profoundness. Behaviors and the way of thinking involved in martial arts are scientifically proved to be of tremendous benefit to our health. They are adopted in training programs for athletic purposes, and also known to provide wonderful value in our everyday lives. Continuing the practice of Tai Chi helps you stay fit and vigorous. Tai Chi is the key to a more enjoyable life. I hope more and more people join us and share the value together.

Tai Chi Chuan is something good and unique.
You may find it a little bit difficult at first, but important is NOT to rush. Just relax, take your time, and continue slowly. Then, you will surely realize the quality. Through practice of Tai Chi Chuan, you can absorb the Qi energy from both the earth and the atmosphere, and foster your own Qi in your body. The system is just like the way you nourish plants and flowers. Be patient, and enjoy the process to the growth. As your skill has improved step by step, you will feel calmness and tranquility in your soul.

My surname, Uetsuki, is not very popular. It seems to have its origin in the word “Uzuki” (meaning April), or “Tauezuki” (meaning the month for rice planting). The honorary chairman of our federation, Master Jibiki, is not only the master of martial arts but the master of language. He has appeared on a television program teaching English. I believe that the practice of martial arts and the practice of language have something in common. As you have to learn words and grammatical rules to practice language, so you must learn basic skills to practice martial arts. The repetition of basics is essential. As the next step, we provide practice called Sanshu, which is similar to sparring match. Just try it. As the saying goes, “虚心受教、勤修技芸” (Keep your mind open to receive teaching, and practice diligently to learn skills.)
